Diet
and Supplements for a Healthy Spine - page 2
Vitamins: A good nutritional program should start with a basic multi-vitamin.
A good multi should have a healthy variety of vitamins and minerals to
promote general good health. Some of the vitamins can be taken in higher
doses to help restore and maintain the spine. Additional vitamin A and
D can be taken in cod liver oil gel caps to promote stronger bones and
healthier tissue.
Minerals: Minerals are very important to healthy muscles, bones and their
function. All of the minerals are important and a multiple mineral
supplement high in calcium and magnesium is best. The body uses calcium
and magnesium in large amounts for many different functions. Building
healthy bone and muscle function require calcium and magnesium. A good
cal/mag formula should be in a 2:1 ratio with 2 times as much calcium.
Herbal
Preparations: Herbs can be divided into two types; active
drugs and tonics. Because herbs can be very active drugs
you should consult a physician before taking some combinations
or taking herbs with prescribed medications. There are
many safe and effective herbs to help deal with conditions
of the spine. White willow bark, boswellia, California
poppy and other herbs can be very effective for back discomfort.
Animal Extracts: Concentrated animal extracts are very useful for the
rehabilitation and maintenance of the spine. Some of these extracts have
proven to help repair and rebuild joints and bone. Glucosamine and chondroitin
are animal bone extracts that provide the body the materials necessary
to repair the joint damage done by wear and tear.
